Boxing Day Birthday

I hope everyone’s had a fantastic New Year and is ready to get into 2012 with some new delicious experiences up their sleeves. It’s been such a busy and short break, it gets you thinking, where does time go?! So the last dinner destination was Sake Japanese restaurant located at the Rocks. It was a good friend’s birthday and they were reminiscing about their last experience at Sake. After entering this cosy dim lit place we were seated at our table and looking at the drinks menu. I must say for the kind of place it was the service was a little, how can i put it….. perhaps satisfactory is the word. The waiter was a little clumsy and kept forgetting my requests for water, then serving others at the table before i again requested water. But nevertheless it was a nice place to be with a great group of friends.

The table ordered some Sake selection that they had enjoyed the previous time. I’m not really a drinker so i have no idea what they were experiencing so i placed my order for a ‘Virgin’ drink… the Homage mock tail made with Apple juice, fresh ginger and lime chunks with elderflower and spicy pear syrup.

I had around 3 or 4 of them by the end of the night. they were that good. We then move on to ordering. We all ordered a heap of things and shared the dishes.

Its always good to start Japanese with some Edamame. Garlic and Chilli to be precise :)

The presentation of their sashimi dish was astounding….. although I can only eat a little sashimi at a time. I find the texture of raw fish a little weird after a while.

I’m an absolute fan of prawn dumplings. mmmm yummy i’m getting hungry again.

This one was one of my favourites… omg sooooo good THE spider maki - fried soft-shell crab, cucumber & mayo with spicy tobiko, chives.

This and the S express came out last and they were by far the most delicious dishes to be served. we were licking our fingers afterward. If you go here YOU MUST order these two dishes.

S express - scallops, spicy mayo, cucumber, seared salmon, witlof & sweet sauce – definitely a very sexy dish…….. it’s like sex in your mouth haha and if you LOVE good food you’ll surely agree :)

now we move on to dessert……… let me just bombard you with images

THE YUZU TART – a scrumptious citrus tart that really makes you feel sensual mmmm i’ll have another thanks

The chocolate fondant with black sesame ice cream…. i’m sooo drooling right now

and i can’t remember the name… i think the bubble milk custard or something like that….

and that’s how it ended on that night… until next time…..

A Brunch to remember

So it’s my first day of break from work and i’m sitting in front of the balcony window watching it rain over the bay, and I can’t help thinking ‘why do people hate this weather?’ even though it’s meant to be summer, this weather makes me want to enjoy a really delicious meal in some casual clothes and my Uggs. I’d love something much like the egg Sar Dou I had in Balmain a few weeks ago with a colleague of mine.  If you walk the beautiful Darling St of Balmain you’ll come across a little chocolate cafe called Sucre. In French it means Sugar and my is it a sweet little place. It’s run by a very friendly couple, Ian and Judy. Judy being from New Orleans, specialises in little chocolates and cakes that are out of this world. If you have a sweet tooth, this place will tantalise your taste buds. They also serve a unique lunch menu along with the egg Sar Dou I mentioned for brunch over the weekends. As you can see below, it’s served on a scrumptious bit of Sour Dough from the Sonoma Bakery with a spinach mash and poached eggs topped with a velvety sauce (possibly hollandaise) with a side of grilled cherry tomatoes. If you’re a brunch lover, then I suggest you head over there this weekend. Ian was so delightful, we didn’t realise this was a weekend menu and we ordered it on a Thursday. We sat on the outside table and he gladly took the order. After it was served, 4 people walked past us and stopped to ask what we were eating. They went inside and ordered the same thing. Judy was inside wondering why there were so many Saturday Menu orders coming through lol. If you do go in and try, please let me know what you thought about this dish. :)
